About Us
No Coincidence Media (NCM) is an Independent First Nations media company that produces and develops raw, cutting edge and signature Indigenous feature films, documentaries and television.

NCM started out producing four seasons of the documentary series Colour Theory with Richard Bell on NITV and SBS, a collection of 20 x 30-minute documentaries hosted by provocative artist and political activist Richard Bell, who travels to the ancestral homelands of First Nations artists across Australia, looking at how country and culture inspire their modern form of art, and documenting their creative processes from inception through to production and exhibition.

Servant or Slave, a television feature documentary written by Mitch Stanley and Hetti Perkins, and directed by award-winning writer and director Steven McGregor, attracted the highest-ever rating on National Indigenous Television to date, and was awarded the audience award at Melbourne International, Antenna Documentary and Harlem International Film Festivals in 2017.

In partnership with World Wide Mind, Mitch produced Warwick Thornton’s visually stunning and critically acclaimed documentary series, The Beach, now available on A24 in the United States.

NCM produced the first official Indigenous Australian and New Zealand co-production with Marama Productions, We Are Still Here, which opened the 2022 Sydney Film Festival and made its international premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, and won best narrative feature at the ImaginNative Film Festival, Canada. We Are Still Here, is a multi-protagonist, elevated genre feature film that explores eight Indigenous characters’ from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific shared experiences of survival told from pre-colonisation through to 300 years in the future.

NCM’s most recent film, The Moogai, written and directed by Jon Bell and co-produced with Causeway Films made it’s film festival debut at Sundance Film Festival 2024, won Sydney Film Festival Best Audience 2024, and is due for release later this year.

The No Coincidence Media team aim to reshape Australian film and television by showcasing the strengths of First Nations’ Writers, Directors and Actors through storytelling, strengthening the country’s diverse identity, and entertaining a wider audience through filmmaking.
